@chez’s wild honey: Thanks for being a mom that cares.
Up until 2 years ago my driveway was the pickup location for the bus. I actually would go out the first day of school and read the riot act to the kids because even though we live in a rural subdivision the drivers can be crazy and sad to say even some of the bus drivers are nuts. I would draw a line in the gravel on the driveway and the kids were not allowed to cross that until the bus actually stopped to pick them up. Of course I always explained to them that I only did this for their safety. I would always watch from the window and they knew if they went out to the road I would be hollering at them but rarely I ever had to. I would also be the only parent around to watch these kids. None of the parents every stuck around to see if their kids got on the bus. Many a times I would have 6 or more kids in my house on a day when a bus wouldn’t show up all trying to call parents who left for work to let them know the bus was late or come back home because they were not going to school.
2 years ago when my youngest moved up to the high school bus I made the school board change the pickup location as I felt it was another parents duty to take over after me doing it for 20 years. I still often wonder if the kids are safe where they stand now as no one is watching over them.
